About Us

Signs of the Sea was started after years previously spent working as a graphic designer in the television & video industry. It left me wanting a more hands-on creative lifestyle working with paints and textures instead of computers. I also live by the sea but was commuting to a city for work. I started making these beautiful hand-painted wooden signs and as more friends requested items the business developed.

Initially, all inspired by the sea & local beaches the Beach, Surf, Sailing and Holiday collections came about. These gradually grew into the ranges that you see now… and I’m still adding!

I’ve been lucky enough to live by the coast most of my life, but even if you don’t, let this collection remind you of holidays, walks on the beach, paddles in the sea, dreams of summers past, the sound of the seagulls, sand on your toes, buckets & spades. Let the sentiments of our signs just take you back to lovely memories and happy thoughts. Add a little bit of ‘beach hut’ to your home.

I spent many years working with Welsh speakers and quickly realized how difficult it was to find lovely Welsh language gifts & home décor so that became one of my objectives too.

The signs are hand-painted, first with a base coat and the chosen top colour. They are then distressed to give the vingtage/antiqued effect [if this is your choice], holes drilled or a sawtooth hanger added.  The lettering is applied in vinyl so that we can use a large range of typefaces and keep up with demand.  A final top light sealant coat is added. No two signs will be identical. The wood will have some character features left in, small knots, dents and bumps. Even if you order the matt/flat colour finish there may be little imperfections.  If you want ‘perfect’ as in mass-produced items then these may not be for you.  All signs are for ornamental & decorative use only. They are not treated for outdoor use.

We have lots of new items in development and creation so please keep your eye on the website, or watch us on Facebook to see new products when they launch.
